How to Update Maps in a Garmin GPS Device?

Step 1: Connect Your Computer and GPS Device.

The first step is establishing a connection between your GPS device and your system with the help of a mini USB cable and wait for the process bar to scroll. 

Step 2: Log in to Garmin Account. 

After establishing a connection between your GPS device and your system, the next step is to log in to your Garmin account by entering the valid credentials.

Step 3: Connect with the Garmin Express.

Now find the Garmin Express on your system. If it is not there in the system or not installed yet, then install it first. 

There are two different files for MAC operating system and for Windows OS separately. Download the respective file for your operating system and install Garmin express by following the instructions given on-screen.

Step 4: Download and Install

If you don’t have a lifetime update, then you have to buy it and install it. If you are unable to start Garmin Express after installing it, then make sure that your internet connection is working properly.

Step 5: Update

Step 1 :  The initial step is the same as mentioned above “Connect Your Computer and GPS Device.”

Make sure the USB cable you are using to connect your Garmin device and the system is the same cable that you got with your Garmin device.

Step 2 : Open the browser and visit https://www.garmin.com/en-US/maps/updates/automotive/.

Step 3 : Tap on the Download Garmin Express.

Step 4 : Select your operating system (download for mac OR download for Windows).

Note : There might be a possibility that the download button is not displaying by this time, in that case, your device is not suitable for any free updates. 

Step 5 : The option you select, the corresponding software is downloaded in your system.

Note : Don’t forget to update Microsoft.NET Framework before proceeding. 

Step 6 : Click on the checkbox to agree with the terms and conditions and start to install Garmin express. Once the updated software is installed. Click on the launch button.

Step 7 : Click on Get Started button and then, Press add a device icon as shown below image. 

As the device is already connected. It automatically recognizes the device.  

Step 8: If you connect a new Garmin device, then first you have to register a device. If you are using the already registered device, then it may search for corresponding updates. 

If a lifetime map update or a free map update is available, then simply click “install all” as shown in the below image.

When your device is updated, then a screen like the below is promoted.
